A word from our Chairman Rick
Welcome to our last newsletter for 2023. It’s been a busy year at the Resort with some pretty big changes with the new Company we have now formed, ‘Lake Edge Resort Limited’.
As you know from an earlier letter to shareholders the transition from a Body Corporate to a Limited Liability Company was complicated by a ruling from the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) that we were in breach of the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013.
As a result of this ruling, which has also been questioned by the law firm acting for our lawyers indemnity insurers, we were required to seek independent legal advice. We are now able to tell you that no further action is being considered by the FMA and a settlement is currently being negotiated to recover the legal costs incurred by Lake Edge Resort Limited. It is heartening that the New Zealand Holiday Ownership Council and other resorts remain fully behind our actions and continue with financial assistance.

2024 Annual Maintenance Levy. At the recent board meeting the Long Term Maintenance Plan, adopted by shareholders at the 2023 Annual General Meeting, was reviewed in light of the current cost of living increase we are all too aware of. The Board is pleased to advise that there was unanimous agreement to increase by the amount indicated in the LTMP and that other costs would need to be contained. Therefore the 2024 levy has been set at $1,195. Invoices will be sent out by the beginning of December.
Be an Early Bird and WIN a FREE week in Apartment 14 (Terms and conditions apply).
Provided your levy is paid in full by 1 January 2024 you will go in the draw to win a bonus week in Apartment 14 during 2024. Once you receive your levy notice simply pay in full and you are in the draw. Each week of ownership paid in full by 1 January 2024 will count as one entry. The bonus week will be available to be used between 1 May and 31 September 2024.
We say goodbye to Don who has decided it’s time to hang up his boots and do a bit more fishing and golfing. Don has been our Maintenance Man at Lake Edge for the past 5 years and has made a huge contribution to the Resort with his electrical skills and knowledge in the maintenance field, he has overseen many projects during his time with us. We wish Don well in his retirement and many happy hours on the lake & golf course.
Our new maintenance man is Aubrey Manual who is a builder by trade.
Aubrey will be working on a Monday and a Friday looking after the pools, overseeing the gardens and grounds of the resort as well as the internal maintenance in all apartments.
We welcome him to the team know he will be doing his very best to keep the resort at a high standard.
We are saddened to advise the recent passing of Alister Martin. Alister was Chairman of the Body Corp Committee at Lake Edge Resort for 12 years from the late 1980’s through the 1990’s. He was also actively involved within timeshare as a member of the New Zealand Holiday Ownership Council and as a board member of the Royal Aloha Vacation Club in the USA.
Alister and his wife Teddy were residing in Wanaka where they moved to in 2022 in order to be close to grandchildren and great grandchildren. A bold move for a 95-year-old.
A New fence erected around the boat park and refuse, recycling area at the bottom end of the resort.
The high drop off to the concrete below was identified as a Health & Safety risk area by our board members and therefore deemed necessary to be fenced.
Boat Parking - With this new fence we have lost a bit of the overhang that we used to have when we backed our boats in, you could hang the motor end over the wall. This is now not possible with the fence there. To park your boat there it needs to be 5 meters or less, the reason being our rubbish truck comes in twice weekly and needs enough room to turn around. Please let the resort office know if you require a park as we only have 3 spaces.
If your boat is longer than 5 meters, we ask you to make a booking at Stag Park on the Napier Road, phone 0800 111 777 or email reservations@allsecure.co.nz for secure boat parking for the week you are at the resort.
Weeks Available - We have a week on 24 November 2023 in Apartment 4 available, please contact the office if you would like to book this.
School Holiday Week - Apartment 9 is available on the 12th and 26th January 2024 for rent. Please contact the office if you would like to book either of these.
Not used your 2023 week - then please contact the resort office if you wish to bank it with either RCI or 7Across. Unfortunately, we are now fully booked until the end of the year.
Booking window for 2024 is up to 12 months in advance, best to be well planned and ensure you get the week you want by getting in early.
Cancelled Weeks – please remember we need 4 weeks' notice if you are going to cancel or change your booked week. If you don’t have a booking confirmation from the Resort then you are not booked in, please check you receive this once you’ve made your booking.
Check in and check out times – earliest 3.30pm check in and latest 9.30am check out times. Our team do their very best to have all apartments cleaned and all maintenance completed within this 6-hour timeframe, which is a very big ask on some days. We appreciate your consideration to keeping these times.
Please report all breakages in your apartment as soon as they happen, we can then replace this item straight away for convenience. There is a small charge for any breakage, this helps us keep the running costs on replacement items to a minimum. Also, if you are sharing two or three apartments with family of friends, please return all items back to the original apartment, this saves the staff a lot of time on a Friday replacing these, thank you.
